Paradise Island, Isle of Capri and Isle of Palms sit on the bay side as a set of canal-lined isles, with most lots on the water and docks behind the houses.

Sunset Beach at the southern tip is narrow and residential, with homes close to the sand and a slower pace than the northern end.

A lot of homes here have been rebuilt or restored in recent years, so raised new construction sits beside original mid-century houses on the same streets.

Many homes on the isles have pools and patios on the water side, which gives the back of the house as much to work with as the front.

What works here

Raised construction puts the roofline higher than it looks from the curb, and the access plan has to account for that. The payoff is a roofline that reads from far down the street.
