The neighborhood is built on narrow islands reaching into the bay, with canals between them and most homes on the water — many with private docks deep enough for sailboats.

Much of the housing dates from the 1960s and has been renovated, with new construction mixed in and a few larger estates along Carolina Avenue.

Pools and waterfront patios are common, so the back of the house tends to be as finished as the front.

Streets are short and end at the water, which keeps traffic low and the neighborhood quiet and residential.
